Press Release                                                                                                      4th October 2019

Are there other options for education in Hong Kong?
What’s outside the system? How do we renovate the current one?
We Have Choices 2019
Let’s discuss, experience and reflect on the possibilities of both mainstream and diversified education!

In face of the increasing pressure stemmed from Hong Kong’s education system, EDiversity organized the first “We Have Choices” conference/forum five years ago. Displaying multiple non-mainstream education methods/systems from both local and overseas, the conference/forum encouraged people to think out of the current exam-focused education system. Five years later, the education sector needs to be more united than ever facing a society which has become more separated and aggressive, and to work harder to nurture all-rounded skills, empathy and personal values to tackle the issues of the 21st Century. EDiversity’s event “We Have Choices 2019” invites educators across all sectors and participants to exchange their views, allowing the larger public to understand that there are choices that respect the different needs of different children, creating an environment that is based on Humanistic Education. We cordially invite parents to bring along their children, or anyone else who is interested in education, especially Humanistic Education, to come join us.

Main Events:

  1. Pilot Movie Screening: To allow the public to understand how Hong Kong’s current culture and the upbringing of a child can affect family and society, two movie screenings will be arranged prior to the event. Discussions with guests will take place after the movie screening.

Venue: Screening Room, HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity
    • “Being Good”11th October (Fri) 7:00pm-9:30pm

About EDiversity
A charity initiated by parents to promote that education has choices, our work has ranged from “We Have Choices 2014” to the “We Need a Break” conference in 2015; from the Jockey Club “Learning-By-Doing (LBD)” project that has been introduced into mainstream local primary schools, to the three-year “Parenting for a Peaceful World – Together We Build a Connected Childhood” parent education project supported by our partner the Dr D.H. Chen Foundation. EDiversity’s core value is based on respecting that every child is different; hence through showing the multiple possibilities in education, we move forward with our vision of “Happy and fulfilling education for ALL!” and aim to encourage parents, teachers and society to reflect and by action bring positive changes to education so that there can be various choices for education.
